The Paintworks wedding photography

Charley and Rob wanted something a little different from manor house or barn conversion weddings which lots of their friends had done so they opted for a traditional ceremony at the rather grand and beautiful Clifton College Chapel with their shindig at the very cool urban space at The Paintworks in Bristol. I have to say the blend of the old and new made for some great contrasting photos.

I met the girls in the morning at one of the bridesmaids’ houses. It was a busy morning meaning there was loads to photograph. The two flower girls, one of whom was the couple’s daughter, were particularly playful and certainly weren’t shy around the camera.

After a mad rush to drive through Bristol’s Saturday traffic on the Balloon Fiesta weekend we arrived at the impressive Clifton College Chapel. It was all worth it as I can’t think of a more stunning place to tie the knot. One thing specifically requested by the couple was to get a shot of their son and the groom waiting outside the Chapel with their super cute matching suits. Charley was fashionably late but that’s ok on your wedding day, right? The ceremony was lovely, full of emotion, smiles, laughter and the father of the bride trying hold back his tears of joy.

As the guests made their way to the reception Charley and Rob hung around at Clifton College for a quick round of couple photos. The sun appeared almost on cue which meant I had lots of light to work with. The stunning architecture made for a dramatic backdrop. During a recce at the venue I found a corridor with the most amazing directional light coming from both ends which I knew had to be used. To be honest I would have been more than happy to stay there all day taking photos but there was a party to be had!

The second leg of the journey was in my old stomping ground, The Paintworks, where I was managing director of a portrait studio for 5 years, so it was nice to be on familiar turf. The venue is so damn cool, rustic, industrial and full of amazing colour so I had a field day creating lots of photos. The best thing about The Paintworks wedding photography is wherever you look there’s an exposed brick wall, weathered timber and pastel coloured walls. It was a treat to shoot at two such contrasting but incredible venues on the same day and the wedding reception looked amazing with so much attention to detail from Charley and Rob.

I loved every minute of photographing and editing this wedding and I’m over the moon with set of photos that I’ve created. I would give the the newly weds a massive thanks for having me there to share their special day with their lovely friends and family. All the best for the future guys!
