THE GREAT OUTDOORS
Let’s get out in the fresh air and have some fun! Bristol, Bath and the South West offers a wealth of locations that are perfect for creating memorable family and children’s portraits. Your photoshoot can take place virtually anywhere, from a relaxed rural space to a colourful urban environment.
I’m always happy to choose a great location for your portrait session but I typically encourage clients to choose a setting for their photos which fits with their family’s interests and personalities.
All kids love family adventures in the British countryside. When choosing a location you might opt for a place your kids love to visit. Whether that’s a local park, a picturesque woodland, a quiet beach, a beautiful lake or a place that is particularly special to you.
Using ambient light and familiar surroundings provides a relaxed setting for casual photos and offers a great alternative to a studio session.
I will capture images of your children as they play, explore and interact with their surroundings whether that’s hiding behind trees, chasing after each other or just messing around.
Don’t worry if you think your children won’t cooperate for great photos, many photos in my portfolio have arisen from cheeky encounters. Sometimes a bit of mischief can make for the most characterful photos!
THE FOUR SEASONS
It’s not all about summer. Each season offers a wide range of colours, backdrops and themes enabling me to provide varied location shoots all year round.
Springtime is cheerful and fresh, bringing new life and with it a splattering of colourful daffodils. With its carpets of flowers summer means sporting shorts and t-shirts in (hopefully!) sunshine.
Autumn offers rich warm colours in the trees, leaves paving the ground and stunning low sunlight. Winter shots look so cosy wrapped up warm in big coats, hats and scarfs on a bright frosty morning.
TRENDY URBAN SETTINGS
Of course you don’t have to choose a ‘flowery’ location if that doesn’t suit you and your family. As a portrait photographer in Bristol and Bath photogenic urban spaces are easy to come by. Graffiti, skate parks, waterside locations and local landmarks provide stunning and different backdrops for a photoshoot. Often bright with varied colour and textures they offer something completely different to a rural setting.
HOME SWEET HOME
House proud families with interesting and stylish home decor might find this option appealing. I’m happy to travel to you and use your home as a ready-made background.
I’ve found a home visit works well for baby photography as it can be done in the comfort of familiar surroundings. You won’t have to leave your home with bags full of baby-related paraphernalia. Everything your little one needs will be close to hand.
This option may suit shy children who possibly might feel more relaxed and comfortable in their everyday environment. Having familiar household things and favourite toys nearby can make the photoshoot more successful. It’s also a great way of getting your families beloved pet involved like a cat or a young puppy which may not be able to go out on location.
We can use a room or two so there’s no need to tidy the whole house. Coloured (whether neutral or bright) painted walls and patterned wallpaper make for ideal backgrounds. I can use outside space or pop to a local park during the same session, giving you a varied set of final images.
As I’m an independent photographer I’m competitively priced in comparison to large photographic studios in Bristol and Bath. They often offer eye watering prices for their products which are well out of the average families budget. I’m happy to give tailored quotes if what you see on my price list isn’t suitable for your needs.
When it comes to purchasing your photos I’m probably the most flexible family portrait photographer Bristol has to offer. Viewing your photoshoot is done via a secure online gallery so you can browse images from the comfort of your sofa (when you’ve finally wrangled your kids into bed!) I don’t take a “hard sell” approach and treat my clients how I expect to be treated. You’re welcome to share the link with family members so they can also enjoy your collection of images.
