The Alma Tavern wedding photography

When I first chatted with Abi and Joe at a wedding fair about photographing their wedding at The Alma Tavern, I thought to myself, “I love a good old pub wedding!”

A whole lot of love, a chilled-out atmosphere and an endless supply of beer, obviously for the guests, not me! 😉 What more could you ask for? The Alma Tavern was the perfect setting for Abi and Joe’s relaxed Bristol wedding. It had exactly the kind of informal, welcoming atmosphere that makes photographing weddings so much fun, and from the moment I arrived, it was clear this was going to be a brilliant day.

A Relaxed Pub Wedding in Bristol

The day was an absolute joy from start to finish. The morning preparations were already full of excitement, with plenty of happy tears, laughter and anticipation as everyone got ready for the celebrations ahead.

I love these quieter moments at the beginning of a wedding day. There’s usually a real mix of emotions in the room, from nervous excitement to completely uncontrollable laughter, and they’re a great opportunity to capture some natural photographs before the main event gets underway. As a The Alma Tavern wedding photographer, this kind of relaxed atmosphere is right up my street.

Documentary Wedding Photography at The Alma Tavern

One of the things I love about photographing weddings is getting to spend the day surrounded by people who are genuinely excited to be there. Abi and Joe had a fantastic group of friends and family, and I felt completely welcome from the moment I arrived. There was no shortage of laughter, hugs, happy tears and all the little moments that make a wedding feel personal.

Rather than spending the day organising endless group photographs or posing everyone, I could simply blend in amongst the crowd and document what was happening naturally. That’s the approach I love most about The Alma Tavern wedding photography, capturing the atmosphere, personalities and moments that you actually want to remember.

Classic Pub Wedding Antics

As the evening celebrations got underway, things inevitably became a little more lively. And, of course, there was some classic dad dancing.

The dance floor was full of energy, with everyone properly letting their hair down and making the most of the party. These are some of my favourite photographs to capture, the slightly ridiculous, completely unfiltered moments that you might not even notice while you’re busy enjoying yourself.

Abi and Joe’s Alma Tavern wedding was exactly what a brilliant pub wedding should be, super-relaxed, full of personality, surrounded by great people and with plenty of fun from beginning to end. I couldn’t have asked for a better crowd to photograph and felt completely at home throughout the whole day. Thanks so much, guys!

“We found Simon at a wedding fair in North Bristol and we are so so so glad we did. As two people who aren’t particularly the most showy and don’t love being the centre of attention, we felt so comfortable with Simon that we got fantastic photos with no awkward smiles!

We wanted to have a cosy, less formal wedding and we found the perfect place to do this – The Alma Tavern in Clifton. We wanted our photos to follow suit that showed the playful and fun side of the day rather than a billion formal photos that took us away from the brilliant day we had planned for ourselves and our loved ones.

As part of the package, we got an engagement shoot with Simon which we went to Stoke Park Estate for, and this really helped us imagine what it would be like when it came to the actual day. We felt so much more relaxed after this, as well as getting some more great photos to share with our friends and family.

As well as of course capturing all the moments we didn’t want to miss, Simon also stepped up with helping us bring those moments together. Some of our favourite shots included the first look with the Father of the Bride and our confetti shots which were all organised by Simon taking some stress of our shoulders (Which I promise you’ll appreciate more than you can imagine on your day). As our venue didn’t have a great spot for formal photos, he went to the church down the road and managed to get the use of their space to shoot our group shots in and it was perfect.

So, all in all from the engagement shoot, to him getting our photos to us in fantastic time we couldn’t recommend Simon enough. A fantastic photographer, good fun and conversation, and a crucial part of remembering the best day of our lives!”
