Wedding set in Bristol city centre

It was a joy to be back photographing at one of my favourite central Bristol wedding venues, and to be The Mount Without wedding photographer. Tucked away at the bottom of St Michael’s Hill in the heart of the city. It’s the kind of place you could easily walk past without a second glance, never realising the incredible space hidden behind its doors.

With its warm, rustic atmosphere and slightly abandoned-church feel, The Mount Without is a truly unique wedding venue. It’s perfect for couples looking for something a little different from the traditional wedding setting, and as a The Mount Without wedding photographer, I absolutely love photographing here.

A Relaxed Bristol Wedding

In the morning, I headed to Henbury to meet the wonderful bride, Alice, and her crazy bridal party. When I arrived, the house was already alive with energy, a happy mix of chaos, laughter and celebration.

There were plenty of laughs, along with a few emotional moments as the excitement built throughout the morning. The anticipation peaked during the first look, when even the maid of honour couldn’t hold back the tears as she saw her best friend ready for the day ahead. From there, I made my way into Bristol for the main event at The Mount Without.

A Personal Ceremony at The Mount Without

The ceremony took place in the venue’s awe-inspiring chapel. The interior is strikingly unique, with exposed and weathered walls that beautifully showcase the age and character of the building.

Rather than trying to hide the history of the space, The Mount Without embraces it, and that gives the venue a completely different atmosphere from a more traditional wedding setting. Alice and Adam had already taken care of the legal formalities, which meant they could create a ceremony that was entirely personal to them.

The groom’s aunt took on the role of celebrant, while friends and family shared heartfelt, funny readings and stories. It made for a deeply personal and relaxed ceremony, filled with laughter, emotion and plenty of genuine moments to photograph. And that’s exactly what I love about photographing weddings, the things that are unique to each couple and couldn’t possibly be recreated at another wedding.

Bristol Wedding Photography

The celebrations continued in much the same spirit throughout the day. The speeches struck the perfect balance between hilarious and heartfelt, with plenty of laughs alongside the more emotional moments.

For the couple portraits, we decided to step away from the traditional approach and head out onto the surrounding Bristol streets instead. The urban surroundings added a completely different feel to the photographs, bringing some of Bristol’s character and personality into their wedding photos. Rather than spending ages posing, we simply wandered around together, making the most of the city and capturing some relaxed portraits along the way.

I love this kind of approach to wedding photography. Your wedding day isn’t a photoshoot, and I don’t want you disappearing for hours while your guests are enjoying themselves. A little time together is plenty.

An Epic Party at The Mount Without

As evening fell, the atmosphere shifted up another gear and the dance floor came alive. It was packed with energy, laughter and some genuinely impressive, and occasionally questionable dance moves, creating plenty of opportunities for some fun, energetic photographs.

Alice and Adam’s Mount Without wedding was everything I love about weddings, personal, relaxed, full of character and surrounded by people who clearly meant the world to them.
