WINTER WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER BRISTOL

Like all wedding photographers, I’m busier from spring until late autumn as the majority of couples decide to tie the knot in the warmer months of the year. However, the wedding season doesn’t stop when the leaves have fallen off the trees. Many couples opt for a cosy wintery feel for their wedding day celebrations.

Despite being a little bit chilly, on the right day winter can offer some of the best light of the entire year. On bright crisp days, the sun sits low in the sky for the whole day providing stunning light to work with. Making every hour, golden hour.

Don’t fret if the weather isn’t perfect as the vast majority of your winter wedding will be in the warmth of the indoors. We can use indoor spaces and a pop of flash if needed. My camera and lens combination can handle low light, so I can still maintain my fun relaxed style.

Venues will often be nice and toasty, meaning when we head outside for couple photos the cool air can actually be quite refreshing. As for any time of the year, I don’t like to take couples away for ages to perfect heavily posed couple photos, so you won’t be hanging around in the cold for any longer than needed. Cosy shawls and 3 piece suits will come in handy, keeping you warm and adding to the wintery feel to your photos.

I still have the same approach to photographing winter weddings as I do on summer days, but the colour palette of your images can sometimes be a little richer and darker. This fits with the seasonal colours, while retaining the same fun and relaxed style. Photographing in the colder months can present its challenges, but an experienced photographer will know exactly what to do.

Winter is also perfect for heading outside when the sun has disappeared below the horizon for some magical sparkler photos, giving you and your guests something fun to do while your band or DJ is setting up for the evening shenanigans.
